Ikhaya Lethemba is the provincial flagship project of the Dept of Community Safety and is based in Braamfontein. It is a One Stop Centre for female victims of crime and violence. The shelter can accommodate 120 women and children for a period of up to 9 months.
LifeLine’s Social Work team provide individual and group counselling to shelter residents. LifeLine is also responsible for running an in-house crèche that can accommodate 8 babies, 22 toddlers and 17 pre-school children. LifeLine volunteers are responsible for running an in-house library and gym. LifeLine runs after school homework programmes and school holiday programmes for the children accommodated with their mothers in the shelter.
